Supporting teens, adults and older adults through practical, holistic therapy

Evidence-based psychology that’s honest, warm and down-to-earth. In person in Black Rock, Melbourne or across Australia via telehealth.

We can help if…

You’re carrying the effects of past trauma or chronic stress, and it’s starting to impact your relationships, body, or sleep.

You feel stretched thin, like you're running on empty, with little space to breathe or just be.

You're tired of second-guessing yourself and you want to feel more confident and assertive.

You've held it together for everyone else for so long. Now, it's time to feel supported and look after yourself, too.

You experience the world differently and you're ready to stop masking, start honouring your needs, and embrace your neurodiversity with more ease.

You're feeling stuck or burnt out - from work, parenting, challenging relationships, or health issues - and you're ready to start living the life you desire.

You're ready for support that feels genuine - where you feel seen, heard, and gently guided toward what matters most.

You've experienced a loss of something important - a person, a relationship, your health, or the life you imagined - and you're wanting support through this

You've been relying on food, screens, substances, or avoiding important things, but it's no longer helping you feel better.

Flexible psychology that fits around your life

Flexible online and in-person appointments, with rebates available. Let’s make a plan that works for you.

Hi, I’m Tanya

I started MindZen Psychology because I wanted to create the kind of therapy space I’d want for myself or someone I love, one that feels safe, human, practical and real.

Before becoming a psychologist, I worked in Traditional Chinese Medicine. That experience shaped how I see people - as whole beings, with minds, bodies, nervous systems and stories that are important and interconnected. Over the years, I’ve worked in public mental health, education settings, inpatient care, and private practice, supporting clients of all ages through anxiety, trauma, burnout, grief and life transitions.

Now, as a Clinical Psychologist, I draw on a range of evidence-based therapies including CBT, ACT, EMDR, somatic approaches and schema therapy. I’m also passionate about supporting people with neurodiversity and those who’ve felt misunderstood or dismissed by previous health professionals.

At MindZen Psychology, our team shares the same core values: warmth, honesty, collaboration and a belief that therapy should feel helpful, not clinical or confusing. Whether you're working with me or one of our other skillful and dedicated psychologists at MindZen Psychology, our goal is to support you to feel safe, develop strategies that work, at a pace that feels respectful.

My hope is that therapy gives you a place to exhale, reflect and make meaningful changes – not by becoming someone else, but by coming home to yourself.

You don’t need fixing – you need space to breathe, to be seen, and to rediscover your own strength. Healing begins with feeling safe enough to be yourself.

How we can support you

We offer compassionate, trauma-informed psychology for teens, adults, and older adults. Our care is personalised, practical and evidence-based, using a range of approaches tailored to what’s actually going on in your life.

Not sure where to start?
Let’s talk it through together.

Our approach to grounded, evidence-based care

At MindZen Psychology, we know that therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. We take a practical, person-first approach that honours the connection between your mind, body, and nervous system.

Whether you're navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, neurodivergence or burnout, our goal is to help you feel seen, supported and equipped with real tools that make life feel more manageable.

Our work is collaborative and flexible, drawing from a range of evidence-based therapies including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Polyvagal-informed and somatic approaches
  • Schema therapy and mindfulness-based interventions

Rather than just talking through problems, we explore what’s going on in your thoughts, feelings, body, environment and past. We pay close attention to how stress shows up in your nervous system, and how to create more regulation, safety and clarity over time.

We work with teens, adults, and older adults, and we’re especially passionate about supporting neurodivergent clients, carers, and people who have felt dismissed or misunderstood in traditional settings.

Sessions are inclusive, neuroaffirming and trauma-informed – whether we’re meeting online or in person.

You are not broken. You are evolving. This is your permission slip to step into a new chapter – one that honours the wisdom of your body and the truth of your experiences.

Frequently Asked Questions

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s normal to have questions. Here are some we hear often. If there’s something else on your mind, just reach out – we’re happy to talk it through.

Do you offer telehealth services?

Yes, we do. We offer secure, online telehealth appointments to clients anywhere in Australia. All you need is a quiet space, a solid internet connection, and a device with a camera.

For many people, telehealth makes therapy more accessible and flexible – no travel, no parking, and you can attend from the comfort of home.

What do people often come to therapy with?

Many of our clients are navigating anxiety, overwhelm, burnout, trauma, grief, or neurodivergence - sometimes it’s just a sense that life feels tangled, loud, or too much.

Whether you’re coming in with something specific or just know things aren’t feeling right, we’ll work together to make it feel more manageable, using strategies that actually work in real life.

Do I need a referral to book an appointment?

Not at all. You’re welcome to book directly, with or without a referral. However, if you’d like to access Medicare rebates, you’ll need a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. We can walk you through that if you’re unsure how it works.

What if I’ve had a bad experience with therapy before?

You're not alone – a lot of our clients come to us feeling unsure or let down by past support. Our approach is warm, respectful and down-to-earth.

We work at your pace, with no pressure, no judgement, and no one-size-fits-all treatment plans.

What if I’m not sure what kind of therapy I need?

That’s completely okay – many people feel the same way. You don’t need to know the name of a therapy model to get started.

We’ll talk through what’s been going on and shape the approach around your goals, your needs, and what feels most supportive for you.

Can I use a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) to see you?

Yes – if you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates on your sessions.

You don’t need a referral to book, but if you’d like help accessing a plan, we’re happy to walk you through the process.
